Announcing VANNO's Executive Transition
(August 26, 2010) -- The Board of Directors of the Virginia Network of Nonprofit Organizations announces that, after three years of service as VANNO's first Executive Director, Deborah Barfield Williamson is resigning to become Executive Director of the Southside Health Education Foundation. "We are grateful for Deborah's outstanding leadership of VANNO and sorry to lose her energy and expertise," says J. Is Your Nonprofit About to Lose its Tax-Exampt Status?

The IRS has extended the deadline for nonprofits to file their Form 990 to October 15. Make sure you don't loose your tax exempt status!
We hope not. The Urban Institute’s National Center for Charitable Statistics has developed a simple tool to find out if you need to file. Here’s how in 3 easy steps:
(2) Select the name of your state and then enter your nonprofit’s name. If there is an alert “FILE NOW” by your nonprofit’s name,
(3) File a 990 or your nonprofit’s tax-exempt status will be revoked

Landmark Bill Introduced
On June 16, 2010 VANNO and the National Council of Nonprofits joined Congresswoman Betty McCollum at the introduction of the The Nonprofit Sector and Community Solutions Act (H.R. 5533). The measure would strengthen America’s communities by making the federal government a more productive partner with nonprofit organizations by establishing 1) better communication with the federal government, 2) better coordination within government, and 3) enhanced data collection. Small Employer Health Care Credit
The small employer credit for providing health insurance is now in effect, so qualifying smaller nonprofit organizations will start seeing savings when they file their next payroll tax statements with the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS has provided tax tips, guides, and answers to frequently asked questions on its website, and both the IRS and the U.S. Department of Labor will be issuing additional guidance in the future.
VANNO Receives TCF Grant
